Alice in Wonderland

Written for Guildford Shakespeare Company.

Performed across three locations; St Mary’s Church, Guildford Museum and Guildford Castle.

Caterpillar  I have a far more important question. Who are YOU?

Alice  I–I hardly know, Mr Caterpillar, not just at present– at least I know who I WAS.

Caterpillar  What do you mean by that? Explain yourself!

Alice  I’m afraid I can’t put it more clearly for I can’t understand it myself to begin with; and changing sizes is so very confusing.

Caterpillar  It isn’t.

Alice  Well, perhaps you haven’t found it so yet but when you have to turn into a chrysalis and after that into a butterfly, I should think you’ll feel a little queer, won’t you?

Caterpillar  Not a bit.

Alice  I just mean, I should like to be a LITTLE larger, sir. Three inches is such a wretched height to be.

Caterpillar  It is a very good height indeed! I am exactly three inches high.

Alice  But I’m not used to it!
